Next is your place for new music discovery. Every week we showcase great new music from artists and bands that more people should know about. Our simple goal is to find you a next new favorite song.
Guy Garvey and yes you know that voice. It’s the guy from Elbow. I’m a big fan of what they did. They took their incidental music from each episode of Trying, a new show on Apple TV, and crafted original songs from them. Very cool idea. Car Seat Headrest’s Will Toledo dared himself to listen to more pop music before making the band’s new album, ‘Making a Door Less Open.’ The result was a thrilling reinvention from one of indie rock’s top talents
Milky Chance and Jack Johnson hung out and made music together. Jack Johnson said, “You end up crossing paths with a lot of great musicians while out on the road. If you’re lucky those encounters lead to friendships which lead to creating music. That’s how it was with the Milky Chance crew. Putting out a new song with some new friends is always exciting.” Zack Heckendorf talking about this track, “The song also reflects my belief that this is the ideal mentality for both personal growth and societal growth. We have to be able to help ourselves first before helping others. We also have the humility in order to know when we need assistance.”
Steven Wright-Mark happy you are here. I love power pop. Guess what I love this song. Written while Steven while he had Covid 19. Fontaines DC are a exciting new band. The album serves as a conscious effort to subvert expectations, to challenge themselves and their listeners, and to sacrifice one identity in order to take on another – one that is fully their own. X are back. The LA Punk Legends’ First New Album with Their Original Lineup in 35 YEARS! Dropkick Murphys give us a needed laugh. “Mick Jones Nicked My Pudding” made its live debut during a live-streamed St Patrick’s Day gig last month. Following the positive response to the song, Dropkick Murphys have decided to push forward the official studio version
Frank Turner. I left in the intro so you hear how this gig was performed. And this song will be played at my funeral. Nick Cave – Cosmic Dancer (Cover) T Rex cover off an album of T Rex covers to celebrate induction into RnR HoF
The Dears have always made love songs for an existential crisis, both unsettlingly experimental and impossibly lush. Montréal quintet led by husband and wife duo Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak, present their eighth studio album. Thank you for listening. Todd Michealson’s latest track was written for (about) the front line nurses and doctors. Love his passion. His playing. And what a brilliant voice. Also, look into his back catalog with My Pet Dragon.
Mike Campbell also has a Lockdown Song. The song is only available for download via The Dirty Knobs’ website with all proceeds benefitting Feeding America. Raised over $20,000 already. Queen + Adam Lambert release a special lockdown version. Proceeds go to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization powered by the United Nations Foundation to support frontline workers.
Please support these bands…or we wouldn’t have bands like this around to support. Buy an album, or a ticket to a show, or a tee shirt, or…something from them. Thank you. Spotify playlist updates on Thursday(ish).
