It’s here. 2020. Takes us a while to get through 4 weeks of 2019 review. And did you listen to our notable songs of 2019? 63 damn fine songs. Songs you’ll be listening to for a long time. Hint. That Bleached song “Kiss You Goodbye” was Kate Snow’s favorite of 2019. As soon as I heard that Fidlar song I was quite sure that would be my top song. At least top 5. Sometimes you just hear it once and you know.

All the 2019 “Notable Songs” collected on one Spotify playlist.

166 songs.

So on to 2020.

We start the week/year with Real Estate sounding a wee more…lush? Yeah let’s go with lush. Then we dig deeper into Brittany Howard’s solo album. Love the spoken word in this tune. Black Taxi. Wait. What? New BT. 2020 is going to brilliant. Man, I miss this band. Ezra emailed me asking if wanted to hear old a few BT songs that he has just uncovered…couldn’t say “hell yes!!!” fast enough. I miss this band. One of the best live acts in recent history. Just amazing..thank you again Black Taxi for the great memories. Live music is good for your soul.

Post punk from this LA band called Moaning. Let’s stay in California for Best Coast and their surf pop. Tennis self describes their latest as an emotional purge. Grouplove are back. This one will sound great live.

Nathaniel Rateliff with his first solo album in 7 years. It came together after a divorce and the death of his friend. He says he needed to write these songs and they were not Night Sweats songs. This full album will sound great after the after party. I’ll take any “new” Bowie. Any time. All the time. Hell, my dog is named Bowie. We are a Bowie family. This David Bowie song is called the ChangesNowBowie Verison. I believe, a collection of these alt recordings, are coming out on Record Store Day. Yet another brilliant reason to get excited about Record Store Day.

Man, what a voice from this British singer Yola. New Nada Surf always makes me smile. This is Chris Bro smiling. And then a Good bye to Neil. So many great memories. I could have easily taken the full 55 minutes of NEXT or hell, even a second NEXT show of just Rush tunes…instead I went with a “newish” not very popular one, a live track and then one very personal Neil tune.

Good bye Neil. The world less in time now.

I wanted to be a professional drummer. – Walter Payton

I’ve heard the stories. Like, Eric Clapton said he wanted to burn his guitar when he heard Jimi Hendrix play. I never understood that because, when I went and saw a great drummer or heard one, all I wanted to do was practice. – Neil Peart

Thanks for listening and thanks again to Ocean 98 for putting next on the radio.

New music discovery is important and thank you for doing your part.

Please support these bands…or we wouldn’t have bands like this around to support. Buy an album, or a ticket to a show, or a tee shirt, or…something from them. Thank you.

Spotify playlist updates on Thursday. Link to Chris Bro on Spotify.
