Chicago based singer-poet Jamila Woods is set to perform at Barboza December 3rd. In addition to her first Seattle show, she is promoting her debut LP HEAVN. Jamila’s LP features Chicago contemporaries such as Chace The Rapper on HEAVN’s title track LSD. In addition to the LP’s list of collaborators, the album uses soulful melodies while calling out social injustices to deliver a message of empowerment.
In addition to her music career, Jamila is an outspoken activist on Chicago’s south side. Including her role as the artistic director of Young Chicago Author. The mission of Young Chicago Author is to give Chicago youth a platform to share stories and is the home of Chicago’s longest-running youth open mic.
In conclusion, Jamila’s last performance of “Blk Girl Soldier” at Pitchfork Music Festival showcased her bands precision in translating the delicate songs on HEAVN. You can expect a full band on this tour along with Jamila’s commanding presence of the stage.
