I was thinking about the rock and roll hall of fame a few weeks ago when I found out Neil Diamond might be one of this years inductees.  I’m sorry but isn’t he supposed to be a joke?  When I heard Bon Jovi and even possibly Journey could get in I knew it was time for me to take action.  So here is a list of bands that aren’t in the hall of fame that should be.  Hopefully they will choose some of these guys over Bon Jovi and Journey.  Remember that’s my qualification for this list.  If you don’t like a band on here that’s fine but put them next to Bon Jovi, Journey and Neil Diamond.

Dire Straits – To me this is the best band not in the hall of fame.  Mark Knopfler is one of my all time favorites.  No question they should be in.

The Cars – Another egregious error by the committee or whoever chooses these things. I mean seriously Neil Diamond over these guys?

The Crystals – Being that they have some other girl groups from the 60’s in there like the Ronettes, The Shirelles, and The Supremes I think you could allow The Crystals in.  If you don’t know their work they sang such hits as “One Fine Day”, and “Da Doo Ron Ron”. All classics my mom made me listen to when I was a kid so I say let ’em in.

Ozzy Osbourne – Sure Black Sabbath is in there but it’s time to put Ozzy’s solo stuff in.  Anything Ozzy is good.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – These are awesome and have been awesome for over 20 years now.  Their songs never grow old and they sure beat the hell out of Neil Diamond.

Jimmy Ruffin – I love “What Becomes of The Broken Hearted”.  The way I see it Jimmy Cliff is already in the hall of fame and he only really had that one famous song to my knowledge so go ahead and let Jimmy Ruffin in.

Spencer Davis Group – Their song was playing when I came out of the tunnel at my first ever baseball game with my dad. I remember it like it was yesterday.

New York Dolls – Influenctial to the punk scene.  The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Stooges are already in Put in The New York Dolls.

MC5 – I leave you with these guys.  If I’m not mistaken they were the first to use the word “motherf**ker” in a song.  For that reason alone they should be in.

I can think of other bands too but you get the idea.  I hope the powers that be please consider these bands before anyone else gets into the hall of fame especially Neil Diamond. You guys have any other suggestions?

  • The only reason I can think of as to why Ozzy shouldn’t be in the RHOF…I heard that Sharon had session musicians re-record the bass, drum, and keyboard tracks from Ozzy’s first two albums so royalties wouldn’t have to be made to the original musicians — Rudy Sarzo, Tommy Aldridge, and Don Airey. If this is true, he shouldn’t be inducted.

  • Dire Straits – yes! RHCP also has had a great run, and still going… How about Rush, Heart and Chicago? Hmm Metallica too maybe And I was shocked to see Tina Turner is in the Hall of Fame but with Ike Turner. Shouldn’t she be in there under her own name, without him?

  • John- That’s a crazy story about Sharon but I wouldn’t put it past her.

Lisa – Metallica is already in they went in a couple of years ago. I also agree with the Tina Turner thing why does she have to be in there with Ike? That’s a little effed up.

  • I believe artists only qualify 25 years after their first album comes out, which makes this the first year RHCP would qualify. In any case, the Rock Hall’s been a joke for a long time. It consistently passes over rock and metal groups in favor of pop artists. Some of those pop artists are great, but it is a rock n roll hall of fame after all.

Groups like The Stooges and Black Sabbath had to wait 15 years past becoming eligible to get in. And forget about major British rock artists like T. Rex or The Faces being deemed worthy of the honor.
