Two years ago I dropped 50 pounds and I did it the old fashioned way I exercised. I’ve since gained about 40 of it back but I’ve recently hit the gym and have started the process once again. Â Today while I was on the treadmill I was listening to my cardio workout mix. Â I thought it’d be a good idea to share just what songs get my juices flowing just in case anyone else was thinking about getting on the treadmill. Â Â So here are just a few of the songs on my cardio mix. Â When doing cardio I find it better to use more rhythmic music so there’s a lot of hip-hop and dance on there.
L.L. Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out – If my mama said to knock you out I really wouldn’t have a choice sorry. Â My favorite inspirational line in this song “I’m gonna take this itty bitty world by storm and I’m just gettin’ warm!”. Â I just burned 50 calories by listening to this song. Â CAUTION: This song also has a side effect of making you want to punch someone in the face so make sure you work out alone.
Chemical Bros. – Block Rockin’ Beats – This bass line alone will make you want to get up off your fat ass and do something about it. Â This song also has a side effect. Â It makes me want to get into some sort of high speed chase with a motor cycle or something.
Matisyahu – King Without A Crown – Matisyahu is so pious I feel like anything he says is inspirational. Â I love this song. Â Best line “You’re like water for my soul when it gets thirsty”. Â Speaking of water I’ve been running for about ten minutes now and could use a drink.
Eminem – Not Afraid – Although I love angry Eminem I have to say this new inspirational Eminem is pretty decent too. Â Eminem has had some issues and it looks like he’s battled through them. Â In this song he says to take his hand and he’ll help you do the same. Â Isn’t that nice? Â I’m with you buddy let’s all walk together with Eminem. Â That’s be fun party just don’t piss him off or his posse might beat the crap out of you.
Kanye West – Stronger – Yea I know he’s a complete A-hole and yea I know he ripped this off from Daft Punk but it’s still a good workout song. “That that don’t kill me can only make me stronger”. Â You what else can make you stronger? Â Running on the treadmill and lifting some weights that’s what. Â So brush those potato chip crumbs off your shirt and get to it.
Rob Base and EZ Rock – It Takes Two – In my opinion this is simply the greatest dance song of all time and there really isn’t even a close second. Â I like this on the treadmill too. Â Be careful not to start dancing while on the treadmill though you could get seriously hurt.
Gary Glitter – Rock and Roll Part 2 – So as it turns out Gary Glitter is a pretty serious child molester. Â But I just can’t help but love this song. Â They play it at arenas all across the country to pump the crowd up. Â So when you’ve been running for a while and you’re tired this gets you to go that extra mile quite literally. Most inspirational line this song “Hey!”.
Tribe Called Quest  – Scenario – When a young Busta Rhymes kicks in with his verse you can’t help but pick up the speed.  He’s so raw and angry on this song.  I believe it was his debut if I’m not mistaken.  “Roar Roar like a dungeon Dragon!” seriously just got goose bumps after hearing Busta deliver that line.
Bill Conti – Gonna Fly Now – Anything from the Rocky movie is a winner. Â I actually have 3 songs from the Rocky movies on my workout lists. Â It makes sense that such inspirational songs come from one of the most inspirational movies of all time. Â If only we could do a 2 minute workout montage and automatically get into shape life would be so much easier. Â This song makes me want to run up a large set of stairs in front of a big building.
Well here’s a few songs to help you get off your ass and lose some wait. Â I mean come on we’re the fattest country on the planet. Â Let’s eliminate that this way the French can stop calling us fat, loud and obnoxious and get back to just calling us loud and obnoxious. Â I’ll see you at the gym. Â What are your favorite workout songs? Â Let me know.
Matisyahu? I’d like to punch a heavy bag with his picture on it………is that what you do?
I like the other songs though. It Takes Two is such a good dance song, it sometimes tricks me into thinking I know how to dance. Of course, if it is a wedding and there is an open bar, I’m sure the dirty martinis contribute a bit to the spectacle.
I’m running a 1/2 marathon in September in Philly, and have Gonna Fly Now and Eye of the Tiger in my running mix. I love those damn songs. And you know I’m running up those steps.
And as for working out……I recommend training for a 5K. I’ve come to love making playlists, getting out of the house a bit, and smoking 75 year old women in these open field competitions. Sometimes, I even throw a few elbows.
I do things kinda ass backwards. Most people work out to get in shape for bathing suit season; summer’s over and I’m ready to start going back to the gym. Oh well… Good timing for your list, Coach. I haven’t updated my playlist in awhile but I had:
Sum 41 – Fat Lip
Green Day – American Idiot
Dee-Lite – Groove is the Heart
Papa Roach – last resort
Linkin park – one step closer
Presidents of the usa – Lump
Need to do some updating…
